On the characterization of the space of feasible WCETs for Earliest Deadline First scheduling

چکیده
This paper presents a sensitivity analysis for the dimensioning of realtime systems in which sporadic tasks are executed according to the preemptive Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling policy. The timeliness constraints of the tasks are expressed in terms of late termination deadlines. New results for EDF are shown, which enable us to determine the C-space feasibility domain valid for any configuration of Worst-Case Execution Times (WCETs), such that any task set with its WCETs in the C-space domain is feasible with EDF. We show that the C-space domain is convex, a property that can be used to reduce the number of inequalities characterizing the C-space domain. We propose another approach to reduce the number of inequalities based on the concept of worst-case busy period for WCETs in the C-space. We apply the two approaches on an example, and we compare the C-space obtained with EDF scheduling to the C-space obtained with Deadline Monotonic scheduling.

A Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...

This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performance of a two-class priority M/M/1 system. The system is fully non-preemptive. More specifically, the prioritized class-1 jobs are real-time and served with the non-preemptive earliest-deadline-first (EDF) policy, but despite their priority cannot preempt any non real-time class-2 job. The waiting class-2 jobs can only be s...

To this paper we have study to Reduce the time Complexity of Earliest Deadline First (EDF), a global scheduling scheme for Earliest Deadline First in Real Time System tasks on a Multiprocessors system. Several admission control algorithms for earliest deadline first are presented, both for hard and soft real-time tasks. The average performance of these admission control algorithms is compared w...
متن کاملScheduling Transient Overload with the TAFT Scheduler
Nearly all known real-time scheduling approaches rely on the knowledge of Worst Case Execution Times (WCETs) for all tasks of the system. This is a severe restriction, as with today’s complex systems it becomes increasingly more expensive to determine WCET by applying analytical methods and the computed results often turn out to be a very pessimistic upper bound for the observed execution time....
